Devotion: I Believe What I Was Told

Acts 27:25 – So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.

The Apostle Paul, who is imprisoned, is having a conversation with a group of sailors who were fearful regarding the safety of their voyage. Paul recounts a conversation he had with God and says straightforwardly and full of confidence, “I believe exactly what I was told.” There are a lot of voices in this world. Everyone has a perspective on what you should do or you should be, or when you should move and where you should go. Yet, for the Christian there is one voice that stands out above the rest. It is the voice of God through the word of God. Paul’s confidence in the truth of God’s word is a reminder that God’s word will accomplish what he set out for it to do. We should be so bold to proclaim exactly what his word says. And his word proclaims that he’ll stick closer than a brother, his word proclaims that he is good and does good, his word proclaims that he is our light and salvation, his word proclaims that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God, and his word proclaims that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, who’ve been called according to his purpose. Truthfully, there are moments and circumstances in life where we have to be fully persuaded that whether in prison literally or figuratively we can hear God’s voice and trust it. There are moments in life where you have to remain steadfast, unmoveable refusing to check out or give up. For here is our truth, God knows his sheep and his sheep know his voice and believe exactly what he says.
